carhartt & catskills

Vest:  Gap (similar here)  |  Sweater:  TJ Maxx (similar here)  |  Scarf:  Etsy  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Bans  |  Hat:  Carhartt  |  Turtleneck:  J.Crew  |  Denim:  Banana Republic (lighter wash here)  |  Shoes:  Hush Puppies

Here's my last look for the 2015 season!  I've assembled another comfortable kick-it look that is perfect for errands or heading to the Catskills like I am doing for NYE!  The shoes are extremely comfortable (no lie!) and I had a hard time deciding on a color as there are so many!  Can you believe they are really Hush Puppies!?!?!  I wore this scarf tons of times over our Ireland trip as I love the orange stripe all throughout.  The Carhartt hat is also a major staple!

John and I are headed down to the Catskills for a little ski resort fun!  We're renting a house with a bunch of friends and we're looking forward to the low(er) key weekend.  So, no fancy outfit here for me this NYE!  Whew!  I've been off my game anyways with finding good dresses/fancy outfits this season and I've missed out on a few looks I've wanted to share with you.  In 2016 I hope I can prepare and plan further ahead so I'm not far behind on posts/looks (plus it'll help you, the shopper find the looks too).  I think the biggest challenge is juggling a 9-5 and our busy schedules on top of the blog, but I'm hoping to make this a bigger priority and give you a bit more variety throughout the posts.

Speaking of lack there of...I didn't do a wine down Wednesday post as John headed to bed pretty early as he's covering part of a coworker's shift as well as his own, so I figured I would just share an easy family holiday cocktail (with or without alcohol) that you could whip up for NYE festivities!  Perhaps I'll take a picture on my Instagram account so you can see what it looks like! ;)

1 46 oz can of Dole pineapple juice

1 12 oz Minute Maid lemonade juice concentrate (thawed)

1 12 oz Minute Maid orange juice concentrate (thawed)

Mix all three ingredients in a large glass bowl.  Leave room as you will fill the 46 oz can full of water and mix again.  Freeze.  Scoop out some of the frozen mixture into a tall glass.  Leave room for Ginger Ale.  Alcohol is optional.  John prefers to add his favorite whiskey.  I prefer to substitute the Ginger Ale with Prosecco or another bubbly beverage!  It's perfect for a brunch cocktail too!

Drink & Enjoy!

Sweater:  H&M (similar here) |  Shirt:  J.Crew (other colors here)  |  Vest:  J.Crew Factory (similar here)  |  Denim:  Banana Republic  |  Flats:  asos  |  Bag:  Michael Kors  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Bans  |  Watch:  Daniel Wellington  |  Necklace:  Bauble Bar

Can you tell from my Instagram and blog posts that I'm obsessed with this plaid shirt!  It definitely has become a holiday/winter staple in the wardrobe!  Perfect for layering and adding in fun colors and print.  As we've all known it's been a super warm winter, so I've pulled out a spring vest to add another pop of color (and to pull out the smidge of blue in the plaid).

I hope you had a Happy Christmas.  Ours was filled with baking, cooking and traveling (unfortunately for a quick holiday).  It was all worth it as we enjoyed our time out in Connecticut with the family.  What did you do differently during this warm holiday?!

Belted Blanket Scarf

Scarf:  TJ Maxx (similar here)  |  Sweater:  Loft (LOVE it - I have 3 colors)  |  Belt:  Target  |  Necklace:  Bauble Bar  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban  |  Leggings:  Loft  |  Boots:  Vince Camuto - old (similar here)  |  Bag:  Michael Kors  |  Watch:  Kate Spade

A few days left until Christmas, and I wanted to pop into C&C a holiday look since it's been SO warm out!  I love the look of styling a scarf with a belt.  Definitely different than the usual blanket scarf wrapped around your neck.  I started my Winedown Wednesday a bit early since the holiday activities begin tomorrow and I definitely needed it after the day I had!  I'll keep you posted in the next couple of days as the holiday finally arrives (warm weather or not!)!   I'm also assuming that you've finally finished with your Christmas!?!?! ;)

laurel + marie

Our last round of Christmas cards are being sent out tomorrow!  Better late than never (i.e. last year's was never sent out ;)).  I kept the photo a little blurred as I want those of you receiving the cards to be a bit surprised!  I always have Laurel & Marie design our holiday cards or any print/graphic design item!  I may still have a few ideas for the future requests! :)  Ruby also assists me in the website design so the team is well versed in all fields!  Keep an eye out for yours in the mail!  Be sure to reach out to them for any special requests - they are great to work with and will guide you through the process! Merry Christmas...5 days left!

salt and pepper sweater

Sweater:  Joe Fresh  |  Turtleneck:  J.Crew  |  Hat:  Carhartt  |  Scarf:  Etsy  |  Denim:  Banana Republic  |  Boots:  LL Bean  |  Socks:  Hunters  |  Raincoat:  Arcteryx

I loved this raincoat!  It was a recommendation from my sister and it was used pretty much every day.  The length helped protect me from the wind and rain and the longer sleeves even kept rain from going down my sleeves or into my pockets.  The hood also tightened a bit where it wouldn't blow off when the gusts of wind came through.  I also had several pairs of rainboots on our trip.  As you can see this was pretty much the state of my hair each day, but it gave it a great windblown, wavy, Irish locks.  I always had a scarf and hat on and sometimes not the most practical'll see what I mean later!  The Sweater Shop behind me was unfortunately closed, but I loved the bright pink home as a backdrop as were many of the homes and businesses!  It really is picture worthy! :)

Ireland Part I:

We arrived early on the West Coast of Ireland Thanksgiving morning.  We were quickly escorted to Frank's bed and breakfast, Doonmacfelim House - soon to be Moloney House in Doolin where we were treated with a tour of the home and an full Irish breakfast.  It was such a treat!  John and I changed and got settled in our spacious rooms.  The built in wardrobes were amazing!  We also unloaded our luggage full of gifts which definitely lightened the load a bit for our trip! ;)  I glad Frank likes to shop as much as I do!

Since it was best that we stayed awake the whole day to fight the jet lag we fueled up with a lot of coffee and a two-day tour of the Wild Atlantic Way (WAW)!  We started with Frank's farm.  It was so much fun to get out onto the country side and see the cows, tractor and the bull.  The land was right along the coast that even the cattle have the best view ever!  From there we stopped where the ferries go out to the Aran Islands.  Visibility was low, but we could still see the surrounding countryside and cliffs.  Wind was so powerful that the streams were blowing back up toward the land and created spray.  The ferries to the islands are closed this time of year, but it will definitely be on my to-do list next visit.

Afterward, we headed out to the Burren, but made a caffeine stop where they have the only handmade chocolate from scratch in Ireland - Hazel Mountain Chocolate!  Frank drove us all along the Burren and to the Dolmen taking frequent pit stops and photo ops!  Livestock grazed amidst the rich limestone rocks.  It really is truly a phenomenon that cattle and sheep can survive on such rocky lands!

After our tour, we headed into Galway to explore and catch a bit to eat.  The town was setting up for the Christmas Market and the shops and restaurants were bustling!  We didn't do as much exploring throughout Galway, as we wanted to use the daylight hours to explore more of the coast on our way back to Doolin.  We had to get ready for the Irish-American Thanksgiving dinner anyways!

Our drive back to Doolin along the WAW involved on-again and off-again dozing from our jet lag (I only got 2 hours or sleep on the plane so I needed it)!  After a few more photo stops and windy roads we made it back safely to change and go to dinner at McGann's.  John and Frank had the traditional Thanksgiving dinner that they have every year, but I went right for the fish 'n chips!  We enjoyed our pints, Irish coffees and the traditional Irish music.  Doolin is known for their Irish musicians and people come from all over to play.  After some tunes, we hit Gus O'Connor's, the other pub in town!  We finished off our Thanksgiving, not with a second serving, but one of many pints throughout our trip!  It was an amazing first day and I can't wait to share more of our adventures of Ireland!

You can see much of our adventure on Instagram here, but I will be sure to fill you in on the rest of the trip as well as some pictures of the views!

play on words

Wrapping (MORE) presents and enjoying a yummy Rosé!  I added frozen cranberries and a sprig of our Christmas tree to give it a holiday feel.  It is a mix of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but resembles flavors of tart fruits and ginger taste!  Perfect that having a gingerbread cookie or two (besides mine were a flop the first time...just hopefully not the next)!  Can you tell I'm totally preparing for NYE cocktails!?  I'm also looking at how to incorporate the seasonal soda water by Polar.

These fun place mats are for a Christmas ornament exchange!  I skipped the ornament this year and went with a fun holiday item from Kate Spade.  It was a set of 4, and I purchased it from TJ Maxx.  As much as this should be a Winedown Wednesday post I'm holding off until Thursday so the lucky receiver may be surprised!

pretty in pink

Sweater:  H&M (love this and this too)  |  Turtleneck:  J.Crew  |  Jeans:  Banana Republic  |  Coat:  J.Crew  |  Bag:  Michael Kors

With holiday parties full steam ahead, I've been excited to bust out some sweaters (and sequins!) that I would most likely never really wear in public.  There are some cute ones out there, but this one caught my eye right away!  I'm debating this one and one other for the party this weekend...all I have to decide now is to wear sparkle pants or not!! ;)

I'm also loving this wool coat I purchased recently in a great sale!  I realized I didn't have any good wool coats as most of mine were down or ski.  I wanted to invest in something fun that would offer a bright look for winter without been too dark or light.  This bubble gum pink caught my eye right away!  I wish there was still this color left, but who knows with all the returns after the holidays if there will be some more to catch.  It comes in a bunch of other colors that may fit your style a bit more!

sequin + plaid

From Dublin...

...To Christmas tree shopping in Saratoga

Raincoat:  Arcteryx  |  Vest:  J.Crew  |  Top:  J.Crew Factory  |  Shirt:  J. Crew - sold out (similar here)  |  Jeans:  Banana Republic  |  Boots:  Hunters & LL Bean  |  Necklace:  TJ Maxx (similar here)  |  Watch:  Michael Kors (similar here)  |  Earrings:  Gorjana  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban

I wore this outfit while touring Dublin and the Guinness Factory.  The boots were an accessory in either shot, but the raincoat was a necessity all throughout Ireland!  When I returned state side, I swapped it out with a vest as it was a rather warm day (really it's been a warm "winter" season entirely).  I wanted to add a pop of yellow to my most recent outfit while we were Christmas tree shopping and I thought it made a fun addition!  I will of course be looping you in on our travels and recommendations, but for now I just wanted to share with you this great holiday look that you can pick up before things sell out!

Tonight was such a weird night.  I tried a new yoga class, but unfortunately it was such a let down.  I should have just stuck with my original plan and gone straight home and had a glass of bubbly!  So I opened up a bottle when I arrived home.  Our tree and apartment are all set up, so I cozied up underneath with a bottle of 90+ Prosecco and had a glass (or two)!  It was an enjoyable night and nice to relax during this special time of year.  Bottles Up!
