workout wear

Quarter Zip:  UD Bookstore (other styles here)  |  Leggings:  GTS Clothing  |  Fitbit  |  Bag:  LeSportsac (old - similar here)  |  Shoes:  Nike  |  Water Bottle:  Kate Spade

I tend to wear leggings, quarter zips and an array of kicks to the gym for just about any workout.  Spin, Gravity, YFit, Hot Yoga (sans the shoes), so pretty much you'll see me in this at anytime at the gym or my "home" gym.  Lately I've been working out to the BBG - Kayla Itsines program and I've enjoyed it so far!  It was killer at first and each time the program switches up every four weeks, but I feel better and stronger.  I've had to take a break or two before due to my back as I noticed some of the plyometrics had affected it, but I've made adjustments to keep it consistent but provide other options to stay on track.  I'm on week eight so it's been really killer on my legs and arms, but I'm happy with the results so far.

Side note:  I took this after work, on a 80-90 degree day.  I wasn't about to put on tons of makeup or get "glammed," when in know majority of people just struggle to get to the gym or work out.  I just wanted to show what I wear when I can fit one in!  I'm not a size 2, but add a 1 in front of that...even sometimes a 1-4.  I have a "tummy" issues because I enjoy wine (trying to cut out a lot of this), food and life.  Work outs don't always fit into my schedule.  Lately yes, I've been on point, but you know how it goes, you're good and then you fall off track!  Overall, I just do my best and try to stay as healthy as possible all while still enjoying life.

the sites (and shops) i shop

Tank:  Banana Republic  |  Denim:  Banana Republic  |  Sunnies:  Karen Walker  |  Crossbody:  Michael Kors  |  Watch:  Daniel Wellington  |  Ring:  Gorjana  |  Earrings:  Banana Republic  |  Necklace:  House of Harlow 1960  |  Wedges:  Nine West

Last week was a bit quiet for me on the blog.  Not many new items in the closet, in fact I've been cleaning out A LOT.  I'm trying to get my outfits down to a capsule closet (more about that another time), so I've cleaned house and organized a bunch!  This past weekend I was in Boston and I clearly did not plan or pack well because pretty much everything I brought was white and I was not about to upstage the bride-to-be!  So, I knew exactly where to go within the area that I was currently.  I went right to Banana Republic.  This was a quick in and out trip for me as I knew what they had available and what sizes to pull.  Locally it's quick and easy since it's right down the road (and I usually I have scoped out what they have online/available in store prior to going).  Plus there are usually major sales all the time, but if it's not available, I tend to order online.

My next two online shopping sites is asos and Nordstrom (and rack here or there).  Asos is always having new items come out in various price ranges so it tends to be budget friendly.  Also, shipping and returns are free and it gets here quickly if you purchase over a certain amount.  So if there's something I'm on the fence with, I always up my shopping cart even if I end up returning most (or all) of it.  Nordstrom also has free shipping and returns, but I only keep an eye on a few brands within the site and try not to expand further!  Lastly I love Amazon.  Here or there I find brands that are cheaper and will get here quicker (thank you Prime) than other sites so it's definitely one of my top sites.  I know in the blog posts I link a lot of items that I try to find comparable in style or price at the sites listed, but that's because I frequent TJ Maxx since it's right near work or take a trip to Marshalls.  To me even if they have some online shopping availability, it's pretty much my "mall" shopping since I really never step foot in our local mall.  So even though I'm stepping foot in a store for these two, I still consider them a bit of online shopping since I frequent there at least once a week.

Blazer:  Banana Republic  |  Tank:  Banana Republic  |  Denim:  Banana Republic in tall so I could cuff  |  Heels:  Nine West  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban  |  Bag:  Henri Bendel  |  |  Watch:  Kate Spade  |  Earrings:  Etsy  |  Scarf:  Sole Society

Yes, I found the perfect white blazer!  It'll be perfect for cool summer nights while having cocktails with friends, but for now it's out in full force for the office.  Now, just to keep an eye out for the perfect print! ;)

This past March the WHOLE Brown family had a long weekend in Lake Galena IL.  We rented a gorgeous house with lake views amidst the farm country of rural Illinois.  We decided on a March weekend as it was after the holidays, but before the busy summer schedules.  We even lucked out on the weather too!  It was the perfect weekend to hang out, play board games, naps, hit up the hot tub, go for hikes, veg out and make yummy meals together (and lots of waffles).

We explored through our walks and hikes and went down to the waterfront.  The lake is used primarily for fishing and water sports, but it is not used for swimming due to the surrounding farm land.  I'd consider it a perfect spot for a family reunion, girls weekend, leaf peeping or a winter getaway!  :)

Galena's downtown was quaint, but busy and the shops were up my alley!  We had a great time shopping and even picked up some Polish pottery as gifts.  The streets and homes were stacked on top of each other as they lined the steep hillside.  It was really quiet an extraordinary view.  Something I would relate similar to Ithaca, but even a bit more-so!  I would have loved to live in most of the homes if only they were here in Saratoga! :)  Galena was only a short drive to the Mississippi (I sang the song while I typed this) River so we drove over to take a look.  Unfortunately it was a bit of a let down, but I'm sure it is more likely a better view amongst other areas that have towns right along the river making it a beautiful skyline!

Our family getaway was such a great experience and somewhere I've never been so it was great to try out!  I look forward to trying out another location if not next year, the year after that! :)

statement necklace

Blouse:  Banana Republic  |  Trench:  Banana Factory (similar here)  |  Denim:  Banana Republic in tall so I could cuff  |  Heels:  Nine West  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban  |  Bag:  Henri Bendel  |  Bracelets:  1/2  |  Watch:  Kate Spade  |  Earrings:  Chanel  |  Necklace:  Etsy  |  Ring:  David Yurman

I love dressing up a classic outfit with a fun and bold necklace...and this one, I'm seriously obsessed!  Not to mention, this basic white blouse from BR is on point.  It's long in the torso, long in sleeves and not super see-through.  Did I mention I love high necklines (without collars of course)!?   It makes it totally easy for such a necklace or a couple of layering necklaces!  This blouse:  I also see myself pairing this with the white shorts I purchased last year.

I had a pretty low key weekend even though it was the Derby!  Not many friends were going out to the local Derby events,  which already had me thinking that I should attend THE actual Derby next year.  Sunday was Mother's Day, so since my mom isn't local and I'm not a mother, I planned a Motherless/Non-Mother Brunch with Daniella!  Ha!  I think she's my only local friend here that can be applied to that label ;) so I totally took advantage!  We had a blast and enjoyed a new spot at 2 West.  I was actually surprised that they were owned by the same company that operates Wheatfields and BWP's here in Saratoga!  It was WAY better than either of those locations and I hope that both locations revamp and become a better restaurant, rather than just a typical chain type...that I pretty much never go to (obvi).

derby day

Dress:  Nordstrom  |  Heels:  Nine West  |  Facinator:  asos (old) love this  |   Clutch:  Cole Haan (similar here)  |  Earrings:  Chanel  |  Necklace:  Banana Republic (similar here)

With the Derby right around the corner, I've been having spring fever with dresses!  I cannot WAIT to bust out a sleeveless dress for the occasion and hopefully make some money on the races!  Saturday is looking pretty good weather wise, but Sunday is not so I'm hoping it holds out because that will determine my Derby plans.  Yes, I know I'm waiting until the last possible second!  I have yet to attend the Derby as I've attended the other Triple Crown races, but I know I'll have to be more prepared than ever since it's such a huge event and we'd really need to plan a house, transportation and seats!  One day for sure!  However, I have many Derby dresses prepped as well as the hats and hair accessories so we'll see what ends up getting pulled together.  As you can see I love this floral number and I've been loving ALL the floral prints out there.  I'm always a fan of a high neckline where you can opt for a necklace or go without.  I also have been loving dresses that hit right at the knee or a bit above.  Not just for modesty sake, but for just being completely comfortable.  There's nothing riding up your legs or anything that you have to worry about blowing up too high on a windy day [hello college?].  It just keeps it simple and easy!

Not much happened over the weekend here in Saratoga, BUT the whole Hogan side was glued to the TV!  We were watching day in and day out the NFL Draft to see where my cousin, Kevin Hogan would be drafted and we were thrilled to find out Saturday that he was drafted to the Kansas City Chiefs as a backup quarterback (hopefully for not too long ;))!  So we've already been talking about which games we would be able to travel to and get our KC gear up to snuff.  This'll probably add to our new Hogan reunion weekends, not that the Stanford games weren't already, but it was just an overall exciting weekend for our family and we're so thankful and happy for Kevin's success and future!
