Summer To-Do List

Summer is in full swing already!  With camping, boating, road trips, ferry rides, concerts, BBQ's and picnics in the park already underway, I thought it'd be a great idea to plan some fun things to do before the rest of the Upstate NY summer season.  Here's to checking off just a few (15!) items on the list...when really there are so many things to do!  What are your to-do's for the summer (so maybe I could add a few)?

1.  BBQ in the state park - we've done it on our own, we'd like to do it with a group of friends
2.  Eat oysters and champagne on a patio
3.  Go to the farmers market and get fresh flowers and herbs - DONE!
4.  Go to a farm and pick berries
5.  Hike one of the 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks
6.  Have brunch at the Gideon Putnam
7.  Mackenzie Childs Barn Sale - Planned!
8.  Get a section in the grandstands at the track one weekend
9.  Tour the Oklahoma Track
10.  Have a bonfire and roast s'mores and watch fireworks
11.  A boat cruise in Albany on the Hudson
12.  Mojitos at Hatties
13.  Have a lobster roll in the Hamptons
14.  Paddleboard on Saratoga Lake
15.  Enjoy a glass of Rose up at the Sagamore

Dress:  TJ Maxx (love this)  |  Bag:  Michael Kors  |  Necklace:  House of Harlow 1960  |  Earrings:  Gorjana  |  Wedges:  Dolce Vita  |  Blazer:  Banana Republic (on sale!)  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban

When I think summer, I think light, breezy and lack there of.  I mean come on the heat is REAL, especially lately!  Phew!  I've opted for some linen options to beat the heat!  Linen is the perfect go-to.  I spotted this dress in TJ's and I didn't think it would work or it'd wrinkle a lot, but really it's been a great addition to the capsule wardrobe.   It's also great if you need to cover up or wear to work - you can pair it with a great bomber jacket or blazer or even a light sweater.  The neutral color also make this timeless.  I'm curious to see if I cross a fun linen blouse or pant.

Dress:  Rent the Runway  |  Clutch:  Deux Lux (similar here)  |  Ring:  Gorjana  |  Earrings:  Banana Republic  |  Necklace:  Bauble Bar  |  Bracelet:  Loren Hope  |  Hand Chain:  Etsy  |  Heels:  Nine West

I fell in LOVE with this dress after I saw a girlfriend from high school wearing it from an image that popped up on Facebook.  Even though we don't keep in touch, I just had to ask her where she picked it up as I was on the hunt for a dress for the LI wedding and I figured a maxi dress would be perfect!  She told me she went through RTR, which I had never tried.  I've looked before, but for some reason the occasion or dress just didn't seem to work.  Anyways, when I ordered it, I was a tad nervous as I wasn't sure what I would do if it didn't fit (I should have measured to confirm)!  I selected a 12 long (I had 3" wedges on) as they didn't have a 12 regular.  I'm 5'10" so the long worked great!  The dress came in garment bag the day before we departed so it was easy to travel with and return.  I did the 4 day rental which is perfect timing for a wedding weekend, as you can return it before noon on Monday and not have to rush!  I'm looking forward to trying RTR again for our next wedding!

Few side notes:  I only grabbed a few photos from the wedding on my iPhone - it's super busy with John being a groomsman so it was tough to sneak him away when it was lighter out.  Also, I completely failed at actually re-reading the invite.  It said garden attire and I should have totally touched on it for a post #bloggingfail.

rainy day duds

Dress:  Gap (similar here) |  Trench:  Banana Republic  |  Bag:  Kate Spade  |  Necklace:  Jennifer Zeuner  |  Boots:  Hunter

I've upgraded my outlet trench to a better quality trench from BR and I'm already loving the difference.  It was perfect for this dreary rainy day - which as you can see I clearly was caught in (hence the crazy hair) when grabbing breakfast at Beekman Street Cafe.  I also splurged on another pair of Hunter wellies because I'm pretty much dying for a pair in every color.  The trench, welly combo with navy and white stripes is about as preppy as I get.  I love being able to pair stripes with neutral colors and then add in a pop of color (or two) to pull the whole look together!

John and I had an amazing hike a few weekends back.  Well, I should preface it with that we weren't very prepared!  We arrived earlier than planned and it was quiet cold.  It made us both a little nervous to step out for the hike, plus we saw more experienced hikers really bundled up!  We ended up driving to Lake Placid to stop at a shop for some inexpensive coats andddd he ended up with a new rain coat and I super lucked out with a new Patagonia!  Hehe!  As soon as we felt warm enough and drove back to the mountain and began the hike, at that point we really could have done with out the coats!  Ha!  It had warmed up that much so I guess we should have just waited out the cold, but I think we were nervous that the 10+ mile hike would have taken longer than we had thought.   The hike in general was on a dirt path, the hike up the mountain was steep and still a bit icy.  On the way back we were able to enjoy more of a trail area that was quiet dense but carried us out on a beautiful stream.  It was almost scary sometimes not knowing what was around the corner or what we would run into!  Indian Head in the Adirondacks was by far my top hike as the views were just amazing!  I'll have to bring a picnic next time to enjoy at the summit!   That shouldn't be an issue as I look forward to hiking it this summer for the swimming and this fall for the foliage!

Summer Cashmere

Poncho:  Banana Republic  |  Denim:  Banana Republic  |  Blouse:  Banana Republic (similar here) |  Flip Flops:  Tory Burch  |  Bag:  Henri Bendel  |  Earrings:  Lisi Lerch  |  Bracelets:  1 (similar here)/2/3

Ok I know what you're thinking...a poncho?  For summer?  YES!  I just happened to stumble across this item weeks ago (not on sale or in stock) and kept an eye out for it when it went came back in stock and on major sale over MDW!  I know this will be a legit staple in the closet.  So if you're wondering if you need a cashmere sweater or poncho in your closet, the answer is YES!  I'm thrilled with this purchase.  It's so soft (cashmere) and perfect for those cool, breezy nights near the waterfront when having dinner.  Which was just the perfect find especially since we ended up having dinner and drinks with friends and co-workers last weekend at Lake Local.  We were celebrating John's end of shift work and we're both thrilled and excited to have "normal" hours and weekends off together!  It was a great turnout and the perfect location!  I can't wait to go again this summer! :)
