summer handbags

I've been loving the straw or wicker handbags craze.  I've linked several styles at different price points that won't always break the bank!

Under $50:

Amazon - a less expensive version of the J. McLaughlin.

Etsy - another less expensive version of the Serpui style listed below.

Under $100:

Etsy - a bright fun whimsical punch of color with your tote!

Macy's - a perfect item to bring from spring all the way through fall.

Under $150:

Cult Gaia - I actually ordered this a long time ago, but I was on the waiting list for it.  So I'm really excited for when it arrives.  I can't wait to take pictures with it!

Hat Attack - perfect for the beach tote or to hang on your beach cruiser ride.

Tuckernuck - a vintage vibe with this sleek clutch

Tuckernuck - a personalized one!

Under $200:

Kate Spade - love this pop of color against the neutral.

Sam Edelman - poms are all the rage!

Under/Over $250:

Serpui  - I splurged on this, but I had my eye on this for a while.  I know these two bags will forever be in my closet and be such a classic look for years to come.

J.Crew - I'd love to hunt down last year's bag, super cute/similar to this but a different material.

Dress:  Victoria Beckham for Target (similar here)  | Flats:  Michael Kors  |  Bag:  Kate Spade  |  Bracelet:  Kate Spade  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban  |  Rose:  Wolffer Estate (again!)  |  Earrings:  Bauble Bar  |  Necklace:  Jennifer Zeuner

I know what I'm wearing again next weekend...!  The perfect summer dress to wear up or down.  However, I'm ready to pair this with the pop of coral loafers a crossbody and a pony.  This number kinda takes me back to that time we were in Harlem where it was windy on the rooftop and the wind just caught it at the right moment.  It was like a Marilyn Monroe moment!

So I've been crushing on a few things.  I've kept my eye on these sunnies as I'd like to stop by a kiosk and try them on a few times before deciding if they work or fit my face or not.  I hope they'd fit my face!  I mean I need a new set of shades for the summer!  I'm loving this summer dress...perhaps for the track.  How cute is this reversible dress which would be really cute with these sandals and hat.  This would be a breaking the bank dress, but i still love it...

I've been binge watching Life in Pieces - it's hilarious.  I'm also excited to start Party of 5 as I just saw that both shows were added.  I've also heard mixed reviews from 13 Reasons Why - thoughts anyone!?  Should I, shouldn't I?  I'm also needing a road trip where I can start S-Town soon...we definitely didn't make that happen over Easter as we had the trunk and windows open towing some furniture pieces!  Perhaps I could get started when I start our backyard landscaping/fire pit making this weekend!

spring to-do

Shirt:  Banana Republic (also love this)  |  Pants (LOVE):  Loft  |  Flats:  Michael Kors (ordered a back up for when I destroy these)  |  Bag:  Kate Spade  |  Sweater:  Banana Republic (old - similar here)  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban  |  Earrings:  Lisi Lerch  |  Rose:  Wolffer Estate (obsessed/pictured)

O.M.G. I'm obsessed with these pants.  They were perfect for Easter, they will be perfect for work, summer, the track, ANYTHING.  Basically it's my new yoga pants...OK I kid, but really I think these will forever be in my closet.  One thing I am disappointed with is that I was unable to actually find a pair of mules that would have made this outfit...perfect.  I'm wearing a large, and could also "fit" in an XL, but figured it looked a little too baggy to wear for other functions.  BTW I'm also getting so much better at curling my hair (thanks Jaysie) and I'm thinking of investing in a curling wand.  Nothing expensive, but just something to get this amazing relaxed curl.  UGH I'm so glad it's getting longer.  I love this length but I'm kinda missing my long hair.  Any-who - I've been trying to think of some fun things to do this spring and I've created a list (not prioritized!).

Spring to do list!

1.  buy a beach cruiser
2.  pick berries
3.  plant a garden
4.  work on landscaping and fire pit in the backyard...I'll elaborate further!
5.  picnic in Congress Park
6.  see the cherry blossoms (locally)
7.  have a girls night
8.  also have a girls brunch
9.  go fly fishing (again!)
10.  have a slow evening outside entertaining (once we get patio furniture!)

I have many plans for our backyard.  I'm looking forward to selling off some of our plants and trees.  We have 7...7 baby MAPLE trees.  Our lot isn't huge, so we're looking to cut it down to a Dogwood and 1 maple tree.  I think that will be enough, especially since we want to have small garden, fire pit and patio as well as many many lilac, hydrangeas or peony bushes.  That's my gold this weekend and if the weather doesn't look great I'll opt inside for more painting unfortunately...  Although, I've been very productive this week.  The three bedrooms are organized, I just did the basement (I have a huge yard sale pile) and I have a list of random small tasks to accomplish this month before it gets too nice.  I'll just be a busy busy bee!

spring cashmere

Sweater:  Nordstrom Rack  |  Denim:  Banana Republic  |  Heels:  BCBG - TJ Maxx (not pictured/not exciting - loving these)  |  Bag:  Kate Spade  |  Watch:  Kate Spade  |  Earrings:  Loren Hope  |  Necklace:  Gorjana  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban

I've been finding great sales on some beautiful cashmere pieces.  I also saw this on sale.  I like the style I'm currently wearing as I can throw a long sleeve top on underneath for extra warm, or a blazer on top to dress it up.  It's a great versatile piece that will get a lot of use out of it.  Even a cool summer evening on the waterfront!  I finally found my white jeans when I sorted my closet out again, so it was great to bring them back to the blog and wear them.  Plus they aren't a snug as they were in Hawaii.  I could tell I got the winter lbs on, so John and I made the extra effort to create a healthier lifestyle.  I even took it as far as giving up alcohol for Lent!  I may treat myself this weekend, but then may turn right around and keep it going a bit longer!  I can give you some more detail on the IG stories.

Speaking of IG, I shared three dresses, I'll link them later, but I've been searching low and high for two events:  Preakness and my sister's wedding.  I still need to find a bridesmaid dress - it's in June!  So if you have any tips or ideas let me know!  I'll also have to share what I've already tried on and what's failed miserably....and there have been a lot!  More to come, but have a wonderful Easter weekend!!!

inspo image from Little Blonde Book

More and more I've found myself drawn to gingham over the past few years, large or small, but really more so not the look of being too babyish.  I love it for the bedroom kitchen, living room (really any room for the house) and especially love it in the closet.  Here's a few things that I'm crushing on and one I've picked up just yesterday that I hope to work out!  I may need some feedback on my IG feed when I do try it on, but I hope it does work out! :)

daily hair routine

So I'm not a Bumble and bumble spokesperson or anything, but I'm obsessed with the hair products and I wanted to share with you my daily (or not so daily) hair care.  I always shower with the Bb quenching shampoo and conditioner.  Even in my travel bag I always squeeze out smaller portions or buy the travel size.  It's light, easy and doesn't weigh down my hair so I don't have to wash it everyday.  Plus it helps keep my color longer!  I usually only wash it when I work out which is like 3x a week depending on my schedule.  Previously I did use their Tonic Shampoo years ago to help with my dry scalp, but I think they discontinued it, so in the winter I just add a little TGel to help.

After showering and semi-drying my hair, but before brushing I add the Tonic Lotion for a bit more nutrients and protection from the blow dryer or curling iron.  I use this as my replacement from my Tonic Shampoo.  I don't have my blow dryer pictured, but it's the best!  My sister introduced it to me and I'm obsessed.  It's the perfect blow out for my hair each and every time.  I just section it out in three areas and I dry it super quickly!  During the summer I opt away from the heat toos and for a bit more of a natural wave.  I don't brush my hair as thoroughly, but I add the Surf Spray and let it air dry.  It's perfect for when I was in Hawaii.

After drying my hair, I use this curling iron but in two different sizes as I'm working on giving a bit more dimension to my hair.  Recently I tried really hard with the Marcel style curling irons, but it just did. not. work.  I'll stick with the regular style and alternate curling size, direction and time held on the iron.  Oh!  I recently just purchased these to see if I could get a better curl too.  I hope they help/I'll let you know how it goes (fingers crossed)!  I finish with this hair spray all over.

Lastly, I have a couple of products that help give my hair body and last longer when not washing.  I use the Dryspun Finish daily (especially in evenings or Friday night refreshes after work and we're headed to dinner).   I use this teasing brush to give my hair a lift when tossing it in a pony the next day.  Lastly I love pret-a-powder.  It's my absolute favorite!  I'm obsessed.  I literally don't think I could you could use a wrong amount.  I put it all over my roots and hairline (where it gets oily) and use my finger tips to shake it through a bit and have the powder disappear.  It feels good, looks good and I love the smell of it!  I hope my routine, care tips, products etc, helped but I'm always open to suggestions and any tips!  Keep looking good!
