scarf season

Sweater:  asos  |  Scarf:  asos  |  Denim:  Gap  |  Booties:  Franco Sarto  |  Watch:  Daniel Wellington  |  Bag:  Henri Bendel  |  Sunnies:  Ray-Ban

I've been trying to switch up the basic fall wardrobe of sweaters and denim with a pair of booties by pairing it with a scarf and/or a vest to add a bit more character to it.  I've been turning toward blanket scarves lately because with the crazy weather we've been having it's great to sling over your bag for the hot/cold settings.  Hopefully fall is here to stay!  It's also a great replacement for other accessories, like jewelry...that takes real effort as of late.  I mean trust me yesterday I was a mess at work!  My sweater ended up like a crop top and I only noticed it when I stood up.  Good thing I have those maternity pants to cover up the belly!  Now I think I've got to turn toward longer sweaters.  Just another thing to add to the list of my limited work/life wardrobe.

before and after nursery furniture

So I've been working on updating some of those FB and Craigslist furniture items that I've picked up over the year.  I thought the best start would be the nursery room furniture and I love the way it's turned out!  The furniture was brown wood, with brass fixtures all over, but in major need of polishing.  I started by removing all the brass pieces.  Then I sanded down the pieces and wiped them with a microfiber cloth filled with soap and water.  I made sure to left them dry all the way before I started painting.  Well I will say I did try to use a gloss white spray paint, but I ended up switching to a semi-gloss paint that I actually use on our trim.  It's called dusting powdered by Behr.  For the hardware I ended up spraying a stripper on there before polishing with brass-o.  After letting those set for a day or two, I had John spray them outdoors with a lacquer.  This is so you don't have to keep going back and polishing them year after year.  Don't worry I know people are thinking you shouldn't be doing this, but really, I used gloves and a face mask and make sure I was in well ventilated places.  Next, I hope to work on our sideboard as I've never stained anything before so I think this will be a great test.  However, this will have to be done outside from start to finish as I believe stain and some poly has a stronger smell!

Please note:  The nursery has not been painted and the floors have not been replaced.  See the last post about our shower.  We're waiting until that's complete before we do the floors and paining in the baby's room.  Nothing special color wise, but I want items that the baby will grow with over time, so I look forward completing this down the road and sharing it in full.

fall feels

Jacket:  Bows and Sequins from end of last winter (similar here) |  Blouse:  City Chic  |  Pants:  Gap  |  Flats:  Michael Kors  |  Bag:  Michael Kors  |  Watch:  Daniel Wellington  |  Earrings:  Kate Spade  |  Necklace:  Gorjana

I had every intention of posting a few outfits last week, but baseball and John's schedule clearly overtook the week.  John has been working on the bathroom a bit in our house (yes, it's back on track), but has slightly fallen back off track with his back going out.  We're hoping to finish some trim work so I can get in there and patch, paint and then we can put in a toilet, sink, mirror and lights.  I think that will at least help us free up some space in our bedroom.  After that, then he can focus back on tiling the shower, and I look forward to wrapping this up in the next couple of weeks/months...you know how that goes...

I grabbed this blazer last winter/spring for $20.00!  I'll have to see if i could really hunt it down, but I've only found similar styles.  It's the perfect lightweight jacket for the crisp fall mornings.  This is the same blouse from the other post, but in ivory.  I've also invested in two pairs of maternity pants (as you can see through the blouse).  I really only need a bit more room, but unfortunately all pants aren't made equally.  They are a thick cut legging which I like, but they seem more light dress pants that don't sag or stretch out.  I will say I do prefer the inset style pants as I still like to have a zipper and button.

four finds

Beauty Blender Travel Case:  I noticed on the last big trip that my beauty blender ended up getting moldy from being tossed in the makeup bag and not being able to breathe.  I didn't want to keep running through blenders so I searched online if there was anything that would be helpful with travel.  At first I only came across the basic ones that were stands.  That didn't help, but I ended up finally coming across the travel case which kinda looks like an air freshener.  It's been super helpful even for the times that I just want to toss it in my bag on the daily.

Impressions Vanity Co Travel Compact:  So there are a few different options when it comes to shopping this brand.  I don't think I'd need anything to get ready at home with, but it'd be nice to have when I travel and there's not always the best lighting.  I can't seem to find the exact link, but it does look something like this knockoff.  It'd be super compact and easy for those long or short trips!

Tarte Blush:  Who hasn't broken their eyeshadow, bronzer, powder or blush.  I think all three things completely broke one right after the other.  I may have picked up the same items for the bronzer and eyeshadow, but I wanted something with a bit more matte for the blush.  It's been my favorite upgrade since about college.  BTW I'm really dying to go to a makeup class for eyes.  I've been on the hunt for one at Sephora or to just go in with a fresh face and get the whole makeover.  I have no idea when it comes to eyes.

Fall Recipe:  This recipe I'm dying to try out this week, I've just been busy!  It's cubed butternut squash sauteed with olive oil, salt and pepper.  Add parm and goat cheese to melt a bit.  Then mix in a bit of sage and crushed red petter.   You could even go on the sweet route with a little brown sugar, walnuts and apples.

little black blouse

Blouse:  City Chic  |  Denim:  BR (bursting at the seams - need these)  |  Flats:  Ivanka Trump (similar here)  |  Crossbody:  Kate Spade  |  Earrings:  Kate Spade

I'm in love with this blouse.  Daniella actually sent me this link to this blouse and I picked it up in ivory and black.  I'm wearing a size 14P.  The ivory color is perfect for work under a burgundy blazer or paired with a full striped skirt, tights and booties for a shower.  However, you can't go wrong with the basic black as it is perfect for a date night out with a pop of red lips and leopard heels (or flats in my case).  It's also giving perfect room for the ever growing bump.  I've already passed it along to a co-worker and another friend.  Everyone is a OBSESSED so kudos Daniella for this one.  I'm pretty sure at some point I'll show up wearing the same outfit one day with someone.
